Hungry and Halal’s steak night in

I do enjoy a piece of red meat, especially a nicely cooked steak. I’ve eaten in lots of steakhouses around the country and sampled the good the bad and the ugly of steaks. When it’s good it’s very good but when it’s not it can be like eating an old boot!

Steakhouses are great but they can be quite expensive, you can pay up to £50 for steak. I understand it’s down to the quality of the meat and the dining experience but wondered if there was a way to have the same quality meat at the a fraction of the cost. The answer was staring me in the face, I could have a Hungry and Halal steak night in. How hard could it be to cook a steak?

In preparation for my steak night I marinated some Ribeye and Rump steaks (see below for recipe) and put them to one side. The steaks I used were from Halalnivore, they are an online company who deliver fresh gourmet meat direct to your home.

My steak marinade

  • ½ teaspoon of garlic
  • ½ teaspoon ground pepper
  • 4 tablespoons of dark soya sauce
  • 4 tablespoons of Coca-Cola (Yes, it does include Coke it helps to tenderise the meat)

The steak night begins…

I took the meat out of the fridge a few hours before I started cooking. I placed the steak on a really hot griddle pan for 5 mins on each side, I like my steak medium well. I found the guide below useful as it was my first time cooking a steak.

The verdict

The steak night in was a success! The steak was easy to cook and tasted amazing. It was soft tender and just melted in my mouth. I would go as far as saying that is it was one of the best pieces of steak I’ve ever eaten.

If you want to try the meat from Halalnivores you can order it from www.halalnivore.com If you order the meat on Tuesday it’ll be with you on Thursday and you’ll be all set for your very own steak night in.
